Texas BCTC History
The Texas State Building & Construction Trades Council
was issued its first charter by the Building and
Construction Department of the American Federation of Labor
on March 12, 1941. The charter was signed by the Building
Trades Officers, President John P. Coyne and
Secretary/Treasurer Herbert Rivers.
Our original charter members were:
Paul Biels, Clifton Brignac, W.W. Finch, B.A. Gritta, Sam R.
Huber, Roy B. James, Thomas R. Jones, John A. Luttrell, A.S.
McBride, J.W. Park, Thomas B. Reed,
E.A. Smith, John Sorenson, W.E. Wilcox, J.E. Wood and
Charles Youngkins
On January 3, 1961 a new charter was re-issued due to the
merger in 1955 of the American Federation of Labor and the
Congress of Industrial Organizations into the now known
National American Federation of Labor and Congress of
Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO). The re-issued charter
was signed by the Building Trades Officers, President C.J.
Haggerty and Secretary/Treasurer Frank Bonadio.
The re-issued charter members in 1961 were: R.F. Arthur,
Charlie M. Benson,
H.S. Brown, John F. Clark, L.E Dilley, M.A. Graham, Roy
Hughes, Sam Huber,
John B. Kirton, G.A McNeil, F.F. Nakovic, C.N. Renfro, Lee
Scallorn, L.C. Threadgill, J.H. Villarreal and Herman
Whatley.
